Wellington Free Ambulance holds 91st Annual General Meeting (Annual Report 2017/18)

Wellington Free Ambulance holds 91st Annual General Meeting (Annual Report 2017/18)

Friends and supporters gathered yesterday for Wellingon Free’s 91st Annual General Meeting.

Hosted by Wellington Free Ambulance Board Chair, Ross Martin, the service was acknowledged for its clean bill of health in regard to the annual financial audit, meeting key response times set by ACC and the Ministry of Health, and excellent cardiac arrest resuscitation rates at 45% survival to hospital.

Chief Executive Mike Grant spoke about the changing face of ambulance services, with the work paramedics do increasingly related to our aging population.  That means thinking differently about the sort of help people need.

“People calling 111 need care and compassion as well as urgent clinical help, and many don’t need or want to be going to hospital,” Mike Grant says.

“This sees us moving to a model where we can work with others to teat more people at home and in their community.”

Life Memberships were also granted to Lyn and Wayne Norwood, and the Norwood family at the meeting.  Wayne’s Grandfather Sir Charles Norwood had the foresight to create a free ambulance service for the people of Greater Wellington in 1927, and the family have been strong supports of the service ever since.

Key statistics from the Annual Report include a summary of 111 call numbers, jobs attended, percentages transported to hospital and those treated at home.  You can also see the other ways Wellington Free serves our community, and real life stories of the people they have helped.
