Statement from Wellington Free Ambulance Chair, Kerry Prendergast, Mike Grant and the Board

Dame Kerry Prendergast, Chair, and Mike Grant, Chief Executive, Wellington Free Ambulance met before Christmas to review the year and plan for 2021. The Board signalled it wanted a re-set of the work programme and direction.

Mike thought it time to reflect over the Christmas break. Given the nature of the re-set and the contribution he’s made to Wellington Free Ambulance over the last three and a half years, Mike has decided to move on to pursue other business and personal interests. He has resigned from his role effective yesterday, 11 January 2021.

The Board wishes Mike well and thanks him for his contribution to Wellington Free Ambulance.

Sarah Lewis has been appointed acting Chief Executive as of today, 12 January 2021. Sarah will be taking on this role alongside her current position as Executive Director of Corporate Services.

The Board has started the process to recruit a new permanent Chief Executive.

Business at Wellington Free Ambulance will continue as usual. Continuity of care for our community is and always will be our highest priority. Thanks to our generous supporters and strong network of funding we will continue to provide all our services to our communities in the Greater Wellington and Wairarapa region, as we have done for over 90 years.

We will continue to keep you informed on our plans and direction and you can be assured that we are here with our communities to provide care and clinical excellence when needed.

The Board and Chair would like to thank Mike for his huge contribution to Wellington Free Ambulance, over the last three and a half years, in particular his dedication and leadership during our response through the Covid-19 pandemic.
