Introducing our new Director of Fundraising: Claire

Wellington Free Ambulance's new Director of Fundraising, Claire says there is no greater goodwill or gift than one that enables us to provide lifesaving care for free

Passionate about fundraising and telling the story of philanthropy, Claire is keen to form lifelong relationships and partnerships, essential to support the work of Wellington Free.

“I hope to gain the trust of all our amazing donors so together we can continue to support our local ambulance service.”

“I see my main role as a connector and communicator of the amazing stories at Wellington Free.”

Excellent communication and storytelling helps create mutually beneficial partnerships for the organisation, donors and wider community, says Claire.

“My priority is to connect with people to ensure the impact of their, gift, donation, time, commitment, volunteering and advocacy is realised.”

Her previous role at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington, included launching and managing the first University wide philanthropic campaign.

One of the best strategies for long-term fundraising success is to encourage and promote advocacy for the organisation, she says.

“If everyone is a cheerleader for your mission you have done so much more than just achieve your annual fundraising target,” says Claire.

Reflecting on Wellington Free’s organisational values, being authentic resonates the most with Claire and is especially important in fundraising.

“I don’t think you can be a good leader, act with kindness and compassion, or bring people together without first being authentic. This to me means being honest, true, fair and to listen first.”

In her spare time, Claire also sits on a number of not-for-profit arts and education boards as a volunteer fundraising consultant.
