Notice of Industrial Action

Wellington Free Ambulance has received notice from the Amalgamated Workers Union NZ (AWUNZ) that their members have voted for industrial action in response to the proposed collective employment agreement.

This industrial action is due to begin on Friday, 13 August 2021 and the nature of the action is that staff will stop logging data used for reporting.

Wellington Free Ambulance, Chief Executive, Dave Robinson said, “I acknowledge that the union have not accepted our offer.  We felt the offer on the table was a good one. It saw our staff receiving a pay rise. It also included a proposal for shorter shifts. However it is now my priority to get our negotiating team back around the table with our union colleagues to find a solution, and this is scheduled for 10 August 2021. I am optimistic that through our discussions we will find a positive way forward that values our team, supports our people to be safe and well, and ensures that our patients and community get the best care possible.

Robinson said, “We want to reassure you that Wellington Free Ambulance will continue to be there for the Greater Wellington and Wairarapa community, so people can confidently call 111 should they have a medical emergency.”

AWUNZ represents 58% of the Wellington Free Ambulance workforce across the Emergency Ambulance Service, Patients Transfer Service, our Clinical Education team, and our Clinical Communications Centre. AWUNZ do not represent staff based in the Wairarapa.
