Logistics: Our team readying us to respond to you

Wellington Free Logistics Team Leader Teria Gibbons knows it is the people around her that make all the difference in challenging times.

Logistics Manager Teria Gibbons

With increased workloads due to COVID-19, it’s business as usual at Wellington Free but at a different pace.

No two days in logistics are ever the same and the team responsible for ordering equipment, consumables and medicines make sure staff are equipped to do their jobs, and continue to be here for everyone who needs them.

Teria says people have come together, to get the job done and logistics, once a small team of 4-5 is now a team of 10-15 made up of staff re-deployed from other business units.

“I am beyond proud of how everyone is owning their new roles,” she says

Stepping up to support the team, Teria moved from logistics coordinator to a shared management role.

“I’m grateful for the opportunities that have been presented to me,” says Teria.

Joining management has meant upskilling and learning at speed, offering a welcome distraction from the disappointing task of postponing her wedding in March due to travel restrictions for family.

She remains pragmatic and says in uncertain times it’s really important to continue being patient and kind with ourselves and others.

“How we operate during this time has changed how we may respond to frontline jobs in our community, but the needs and wellbeing of our staff remain our top priority.”

Our workload has shifted gears in the wake of COVID-19. “We have created a new central warehouse for our stores, we have station camp mothers, papas and nanas and even the fleet manager is mucking in for our team.”

“We are looking after each other, we are taking care of our mental health and remembering to laugh, sending funny memes to each other; this is what makes Wellington Free great.”

Teria knows what her and her team’s purpose is. She know that things have changed and will continue to be different. But her values remain the same.

“He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata. It is people, it is people, it is people,” she says.
