Introducing Graduate Intern: Alyce

Introducing Graduate Intern: Alyce

Alyce was full of excitement when she got the call from Wellington Free Ambulance; it was all she needed to pack her bags and move across the ditch for her dream career.

Graduate Intern Alyce

“I had a lot to adjust to when I arrived in New Zealand but the supportive structure of Wellington Free helped make the transition from university to the road very smooth,” Alyce says.

After previously working as an ambulance attendant in Australia and studying paramedicine at Monash University, Alyce's hope is to broaden her understanding of emergency health and further develop her clinical skills.

As one of our newest Graduate Interns, Alyce looking forward to the year ahead. She explains working alongside such a skilled team of paramedics has already helped her connect with and better treat her patients.

Stepping outside of her comfort zone has meant Wellington Free has become a home away from home and Alyce understands the concept of family stretches far and wide.

“New Zealand has a strong sense of community with family as its most important value. Wellington Free is a small service where everybody knows everybody. There's a strong sense of family; everybody is there to look after each other,” she says.

A normal day of work is very go, go, go for Alyce. “For a lot of our jobs we’re attending someone’s call for help; a moment that can often be one of the scariest days of their lives. But we’re here no matter what they might be going through.”

If you ring 111, Wellington Free Ambulance continues to respond to emergencies. However please only call 111 if you are facing a medical emergency.
